Rachel Coulson completed her High School Certificate at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts in 2008. The following year she continued her training at The Victorian College of the Arts where she would graduate in 2011 with a Bachelor of Dance. On graduation she performed in Stephanie Lake and Robin Fox’s A Giant Theremin and also Antony Hamilton’s Blood & Bone, which premiered in 2012 as a part of Melbourne International Festival. Rachel also worked with filmmaker, Keith Deverell and choreographer, Shelley Lasica on Grace Note #5, which premiered at Sugar Mountain Festival in January of 2013, at The Forum Theatre. In 2014 Rachel performed in Rebecca Jensen and Sarah Aiken’s work, Overworld at The Subsation as a part of Next Wave Festival. The work was recommissioned for a second performance at the North Melbourne Town Hall in March of 2015 as a part of Dance Massive Festival. In October of 2015 Rachel performed in Antony Hamilton’s new work, Nyx. After years of development, it premiered at the North Melbourne Meat Market as a part of the dance program of Melbourne Festival. Nyx, nominated for a Green Room Award in 2016 for ‘Best Ensemble’. Just recently, Rachel performed with Melanie Lane at the Arts Centre’s State Theatre as a part of XO Space’s DARK program for Asia TOPA Festival. Rachel is currently completing her year-long Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teacher Training with Australian Yoga Academy. She is based here in Melbourne where she continues to work as a freelance contemporary dancer and teacher.
